Public transport and environmental challenges
Public transport is part of the solutions to the environmental challenges as it plays a vital role in this field.
The above statement was the intro of a speech delivered by SYLVAIN HAON Director Knowledge & Membership Services, International Association of Public Transport (UITP), Brussels, Belgium, who moderated a session entitled (Public Transport and Coping with Environmental Challenges). The session witnessed six working papers; Akash Passay delivered the first, Senior President of Volvo International, Sweden under the headline: Improving Driving in Smart Cities: 10 Key Enablers).
The second paper (Green e-Mobility: Launching New Energy Buses in China) was delivered by CHANG HAO Vice General Manager of Business Development, Zhengzhou Yutong Bus Co. Ltd, Henan, China.
VERONIQUE ANDRIES Ecodesign Director, Alstom Group, Paris, France, presented a paper entitled "How Environmental Design Can Meet Environmental Challenges." The paper examined the environmental design plans and their role in addressing climate challenges.
NICOLAS CARTIER Program Director, Bus2025, RATP Group, Paris, France, presented a paper entitled (Working towards a 100-percent environmentally-friendly bus fleet). This bus contributes to environmental cleanliness and public health.
STEPHEN SEVERANCE Head of Program Management and Marketing, Masdar, Abu Dhabi, presented the final paper entitled (Sustainability in Electric Mobility in Urban Communities). Mr Severance highlighted the role of sustainability in promoting environmental and public health and the experience of public transport riders during their daily commute.
